My Father’s Healthy Lessons

It’s that time of year again…time to celebrate the men in our life! This week is National Men’s Health Week, culminating on Sunday with Father’s Day!

My dad has been there for me through thick and thin…he’s a shoulder to cry on, supports me and my dreams, taught me my vigorous work ethic, and most importantly, the significance of being true to myself.

All the men in my life are so important to me, so I try to ensure they are as healthy as possible!

To keep the men in your life in tip top health, my father’s healthy lessons:

  • Oral hygiene is vital to good health! As my dentist for twenty-five years, no one has been more influential on teaching me about oral hygiene…especially flossing! Brushing alone cannot get rid of all germs and keep us in tip-top shape! Don’t forget to brush and floss every day!4ac5a0784f15ff5c00688326e432cf72
  • “Eat food, mostly plants.” My dad, the vegan, follows some of Michael Pollen’s “Food Rules.” We should all learn from him (he even eats mushrooms over a bed of dark leafy greens for breakfast!)! Incorporating more vegetables into our diets is essential for good health!

  • Go to your doctor…even if you feel fine. Help the men in your life and encourage them to get their annual screenings! You’re not nagging…you could be saving a life!
  • Protect your heart! 25% of deaths among men are due to heart disease. A healthy diet and exercise are vital components of protecting your ticker! Click here for more healthy living tips!

  • Find your cool. Zen is just one adjective to describe my dad (twice per day). My dad enjoys his 20 minutes of meditation, no matter how much my siblings and I make fun of his “ummmms” and “ahhhs.” But I’ve learned one thing from his relaxed attitude…find something…anything…to reduce the stress in your life!

As one of my dad’s favorite bands would say, “Don’t be a collector of more than you need, got a lot of things growing, but keep watching your seeds.” – Grateful Dead, One Thing To Try

Whether it’s your own dad, grandfather, boyfriend, husband, or uncle, how are you helping the men in your life?

Wishing you a nutritious and loving Fathers Day!

XO
