I know…it’s Saturday! But Thanksgiving is in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS, so we’re pulling out all the stops and I’m giving you an extra recipe this week!

This Cinnamon Pear Sauce happens to be the perfect make-ahead recipe. It freezes well or you can make it on Sunday or Monday the week of Thanksgiving so you don’t have to worry about it on that Thursday. #organized

I personally believe any applesauce/pear sauce is absolute PERFECTION on poultry (from when I used to eat turkey on Thanksgiving), just as delicious straight from the bowl, and sooo good when you dip perfectly roasted veggies in it (ya hear me?!).

Growing up, applesauce was a holiday table staple. And it still is guaranteed to be on the table (thanks mom!). I shared my mom’s traditional recipe (with a little less sugar) years ago and oyyy those pictures. One day I’ll re-photograph it, but I promise the recipe is deeeelish.

This year, I created a twist on traditional applesauce…I used pears! Pears are softer than apples and contain more water so this pear sauce comes together even quicker than applesauce. There’s also NO added sugar in this recipe…I used a medjool date instead to slowly infused natural sweetness to this sauce. You’ll be seeing hearts <3

The entire recipe comes together in less than an hour (including cooling time!) so you’ll have plenty of time for other Thanksgiving menu planning this weekend…maybe you’ll include this Fall Farro Salad or Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad or my Simple Roasted Parsnips…I could go on…

So get ready for Monday because I’m sharing *50*, yes 5-0 last minute vegetarian Thanksgiving recipes you NEED on your table…OK, so maybe you don’t need all 50, but I’m giving you PLENTY of options!

For now, make my Cinnamon Pear Sauce and make your Thanksgiving easy peasy, parsnip squeasy!

Serves: 4 cups
Fall flavors, cinnamon and ginger, are infused in this twist on traditional applesauce, making the smoothest and most delectable naturally sweetened Cinnamon Pear Sauce you need on your Thanksgiving table…or any fall night!
Ingredients
  • 5 ½ cups pears (~7 medium-sized pears), I used Bartlett Pears
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 date, halved
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground ginger
Instructions
  1. Chop pears and add to a large saucepan with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  2. Add date and cinnamon stick and let simmer for about 20 minutes. Gently mash with a fork to desired consistency. I prefer it chunky, but you can also puree the mixture, if desired.
  3. Let thicken over very low heat for another 10 minutes. Add ground cinnamon and ginger and mix to combine.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool for at least 25 minutes. Refrigerate before serving. Enjoy!
Note: You can peel the pears if you wish, but I like the texture of the skin in my applesauce…plus it adds more fiber!

  1. I love this! I have to admit, applesauce didn’t really make an appearance until I started to whip up recipes in the kitchen, but I love the idea of using this as a replacement for fat in cooking and baking! I am pinning now- experimenting this winter, heck yes!

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! I’ve always loved applesauce but pear sauce definitely is a bit more special for the holidays 🙂
